3:43p "Hiding" vegetables in food?
I'm not the world's biggest vegetable fan, generally choosing to avoid them as much as possible in favour of unhealthy pre-packaged vegan food. However, I'm trying to improve my diet, and doing so means increasing the amount and variety of vegetables I eat (something tells me that eating carrot, potato, and corn isn't going to give me the nutrients I need ;D).
To cut a long story short, do any of you lovely people have any suggestions about how to "hide"/disguise the taste of vegetables in food? My mother used to do this when I was much younger, but there was always meat/dairy/eggs involved. Recipes would also be extremely appreciated.
(Apologies if this is tagged incorrectly).
ETA: Upon reflection, it's probably more that I'm not educated on how to properly prepare vegetables, so any suggestions regarding how you like to prepare your favourite vegetables would also be really appreciated.

4:01p trifle help
This will be my first xmas home since I've turned vegan. I've had vegetarian family christmas' before, but not vegan, and not with the extended family. So I really need meals to impress. There are a few problems though: - No specialist ingredients so no tofu, soy cream cheese, soy yoghurt etc. There maybe vital wheat gluten if I'm lucky, but I'm not holding out alot of hope. My mother lives in a rural area so these things are pretty much impossible to find.
I was thinking of making a trifle, so for the custard can you omit the eggs and replace the milk with a non-dairy version?
Any help would be appreciated XD

11:42a Christmas dinner ideas please!
This is my first Christmas as a vegan, and I am really keen to show my omni family that vegan food is delicious!! My vegetarian sister and I usually just make a Sanitarium 'Veggie Roast', but having done that for the past few years I am bored of it, and want to cook something myself. Whatever I cook needs to be ok for my sister to eat, because we are the only two that don't eat meat. She doesn't like tofu (having never actually tried it) so the recipe either has to have no tofu, or tofu that is not obviously tofu! Preferably the latter, because I think she would like it if she were tricked into trying it. Any ideas would be very welcome! Feel free to leave dessert ideas too, because I am struggling with that too! I just want everything to be perfect! :D

6:57p Harry Potter themed Christmas presents
I know I'm always asking for help here, but I need some more help! I am doing a secret santa at work, and I need some ideas. Everyone at my work is super awesome about my vegan-ness (which is a great change from my last job) but I want to blow everyone out of the water and make them jealous that the vegan didn't draw their name.
I have gathered some information and here is what I have: she likes chocolate (but not really dark chocolate), peanut butter, pumpkin, cheesecake and peppermint. Her favorite book series, helpfully enough, is Harry Potter.
Now, at first I was just going to make some peanut butter cups and peppermint patties (courtesy of vegweb) and maybe the no-bake peanut butter pie from VWAV and get a cute mug or something (we do secret santa for three days) but now I want to do something impressive. Like come up with magical sounding names, or other recipes that could be like they came from the wizarding world, or cute ways to make them. I can't make chocolates in molds, however. I have tried that before and they wouldn't come out of the mold for anything. I tried greasing the molds before, sticking the pan in warm water for a few seconds and then a few more seconds, and then a few more (you can imagine how they eventually came out - half melted). But other ideas would be fantastic.
And I was planning on using just melted tropical source (or whatever they're called) semisweet pieces for this and my other holiday baking, but is there a cheaper way? Can I make it or do you know of other brands that are vegan? I can never seem to find some.
Thank you so much!!!
ETA: I was planning on just making the peppermint patties and peanut butter cups (I'm also making some for general holiday presents) in little cupcake tins with paper liners. If you know an easier way, let me know!!

12:01a oranges!
I have altogether too many oranges right now. I plan on eating some as-is, of course, but I'd like some ideas on savory dishes and desserts as well.
I'd like to make some kind of orange "chicken", with tofu or seitan, but the recipes I've seen call for just a tablespoon or so of juice and I'd like to see how much of the actual oranges I can get in there, so any ideas along those lines would be great.
Desserts and weird salads are also welcome, basically any interesting ways to use up oranges would be great!
Thanks :)

5:53p Soy-free vegan chili recipe?
I'm making a huge batch of vegan chili to feed dozens of people. I know some of them can't have soy and of course mushrooms are a common allergen, so I'm looking for a recipe that has lots of beans for protein and doesn't use boxed/canned broth or boullion (lots of ingredients = lots of potential allergens). A white chili (not tomato-based) would be amazing; there will also be non-vegan chili at the event and I want it to be easy for people to tell them apart. Many thanks for your suggestions!

4:59p creamy chicken-esque soups
anyone have a good recipe for a creamy "chicken" and wild rice soup? or a chicken and dumpling? things that are kinda healthy are a plus. i do have a chix n dumpling soup recipe but it calls for 8 tablespoons of magarine! (it does feed a lot, but still, that seems gratuitous).
im getting bored with tofu noodle soup and like thicker soups in the winter.

10:06a Fresh Lime Dilemma
I'm absolutely in love with citrus and recently picked up some limes for jerk seitan. I was so excited about having these limes, that I went ahead and ate one raw (sans juice for the marinade). It made my mouth happy with its intense sourness, but my stomach was less than pleased. Let me get to my question:
Is there a way to prepare a lime that makes it a little more palatable but leaves it still as close to a fresh lime as possible?
I want to try and sugar it or soak it in something, but I have no idea where to start.
Thank you!

9:01a Vegan Peanut Butter Blossoms?
Help me, lovely ladies and gentlemen of vegancooking--you're my only hope! ;D
This is my first Yule as a vegan (I went from vegetarian to vegan in April), and so far, it's been a marvelous, wonderful ride. This little blip doesn't necessarily make it any less marvelous or wonderful, but just a wee bit frustrating. ;D I've got lovely vegan recipes for sugar cookies and gingerbread, so I'm all set there...but my utter favorite cookie is peanut butter blossoms, and no matter how much Google-fu I use, I can't find a good vegan recipe for them. I suppose I could try and veganize the recipe myself (I've had good luck thus far, just using old family recipes and substituting this for that), but the part that's killing me is the chocolate blossoms! Traditionally, they're Hershey's kisses, which aren't vegan...what could I use as a substitute?
Any and all advice on this would make me ridiculously happy~ :) Thank you so much!!
( Recipe I'm trying to veganize below the cut! :D )

11:23p Cowboy Caviar
An absolutely delicious dip. It's very versatile, and you can change the amounts to suit your tastes. I brought it to a family dinner tonight and it was quickly devoured. My niece barely ate her dinner after she ate half the plate of this dip.
1 can black olives, drained and chopped 1 can black beans 1/4 cup onions 1 garlic clove, finely chopped (I used three) 2 tbsp olive oil 2 tbsp lime juice 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper 1/4 tsp ground cumin 1/8 tsp black pepper 1 pkg "cream cheese", softened 2 green onions, chopped.
1. In medium bowl, mix all but cream cheese and green onions 2. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours 3. Whip up cream cheese with a little "sour cream" or "milk" to thin and spread on plate (I used soy milk and just whipped it up with a fork) 4. Spoon semi-drained bean mixture over "cream cheese" 5. Sprinkle with green onions.
Serve with tortilla chips or crackers, etc. I used quotes to denote your substitute of choice.
